This year I want to do something a little bit different. I want to share some pin-tastic Pinterest tips! Pinterest is my BFF and I realize I don’t talk about “her” much on Twins Mommy.
So, for the next 12 days, I’m going to be sharing some Pinterest tips to help you grow your blog traffic, list, and income.
For today I want to talk about how to find the best times to Pin.
When creating your pinning strategy, knowing when the optimal time to pin is important.
This means your target audience will have a greater chance of seeing your pins than if you pinned at any time of the day. And you know what?
Pinterest is looking for when user engagement is the highest as a metric to rank your pins. So, if your pins are pinned at the optimal time, it’s likely to get in front of your audience for engagement (close-up, click or save).
When this happens, you are sending a good signal back to Pinterest. It’s effectively saying, “look, my pins are getting tons of engagement from pinners.”
Pinterest will take notice and rank your profile as more authoritative – something I teach in my Ready Set Blog For Traffic course.
That’s exactly what you want! Here is how to figure out your best time to pin.
1. Pin for 30 Days
First, things first – you need to have history on Pinterest to create a baseline of when your audience is on Pinterest.
What should you be doing during those first 30 days as a new Pinterest user?
- Get on the platform every day and manually pin
- Create multiple boards relevant to the audience you want to attract
- Optimize your profile for searchability
- Join group boards to grow your reach
- Promote your Pinterest profile on Facebook, your emails and on your blog
- Sign up to a Pinterest for business account
Give Pinterest signals of your performeance on thier platform. How often do you pin or how often are you on their platform?
Being on Pinterest every day for the first 30 days will also help you attract followers and your ideal audience.
2. Check Your Google Analytics
Google Analytics looks at the users on your blog. Since you’ve been focusing on using Pinterest to drive traffic, Google Analytics can give you the best times your audience is on your blog.
You can view when users visit on Google Analtyics’ Homepage.
As you can see, most of my audience checks out my blog on Monday or Tuesday from 10 am onward. So this tells me that I should probably pin more on those days and be on the Pinterest platform manually pinning as well.
Looking at your Google Analytics can help you figure out the best times to promote your posts on social media.
3. Use the Best Time Stats as Reference
You can also look at the stats of the best times on Pinterest for all pinners to pin. Use this as a general guideline since this isn’t telling you YOUR best time to pin.
According to Quicksprout, the best times are:
- Best Day: Saturday
- Best Time of Day: 8-11pm (not sure if this is Eastern or Pacific?)
- Other Best Times: 9pm, 2-4pm EST, 8pm-1am EST
- For Fashion Bloggers: 3pm
4. Use Tailwind
Tailwind is an automation scheduler for Pinterest and Instagram. What’s so great about Tailwind is their SmartScheduler which tells you when your audience is on Pinterest!
When constructing your schedule, you’ll have to put in some times manually first. Tailwind doesn’t know your profile on Pinterest or your audience.
I would give Tailwind around 2 weeks of consistent pinning (that you schedule) to figure out optimal and highest engagement times. These are indicated by the green-dashed time slots in your schedule.
From that point on Tailwind will populate suggested optimal times to schedule your pins. You don’t have to use all their suggested times – if you did, you’d be pinning 300 times a day I think!
But, you can add one or two suggested time slots here and there or create a new schedule.
