Philly "Cheesesteak" Burger

I’m a Philly girl at heart and LOVE a good Philly Cheesesteak.  However I always get sick whenever I eat them.  Like really sick.  I’m not really sure why.  I love the steak flavor with the caramelized onions and the way the bun soaks up all the grease from the beef!  I go to Whole Foods once a week and do a big shopping trip.  On that shopping trip I ALWAYS have to get my stage 4 ground beef.  We love making meatballs, meat sauce, meatloaf, but most of all we love making a good burger!

Our favorite way to make our burgers is loaded with delicious caramelized onions, some applegate organic american cheese, and then whole foods brand burger buns!  Ideally I’d love to use a fresh Kaiser roll but Kay can actually eat the Whole Foods brand bread products with her FPIES food allergies!  HOORAY!  Almost every bread we’ve looked at contains soy, aside from them.

Philly "Cheesesteak" Burger

This is a ridiculously easy and satisfying meal, and you can add in some peppers too if you want!

Philly "Cheesesteak" Burger

  • 1 lb grass fed beef
  • 1 onion (thinly sliced)
  • 3 pieces of American cheese
  • 3 burger buns
  • salt + pepper
  1. In a cast iron skillet cook the burgers on one side for about 5 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle the burgers with salt and pepper.
  3. Flip the burgers and add in the onions.
  4. Toss the onions so they cook evenly, Cook the burgers until thoroughly cooked and top with cheese and onions.
  5. Place on buns and enjoy!
