FANtastic Chinese New Year

Every year we celebrate New Year’s Eve.  It’s a new year!   I love the tradition of the Chinese New Year festival.   During the Chinese New Year the tradition is to visit family and friends, cooking/bringing them special meals, watching fireworks and gift giving.   It all begins on the second new moon after the winter solstice and ending on the full moon 14 days later.  In my family growing up we would just celebrate by ordering in Chinese or going to a Chinese Buffet.  Then we would make fortune cookies with my mom.  It was fun and memories I’ll always cherish.  We’re excited to try Tai Pei® Good Fortune in Every Box™ Eggrolls!

Since Sweet Baby Girl cannot have traditional Chinese Take-out (due to soy) we stick to making it Authentic and Restaurant Inspired at home.  She loves when I make her Asian Noodles!  The Chinese New Year is all about wishing good fortune to all in the new year.  To celebrate Kay and I made a beautiful new fan for daddy.  He may have some big decisions to make with his job in the coming months and we really want to blow away all the worries and smother him with good wishes.  I think the fan does a FAN-tastic job at that.  Don’t you?   Also since it’s the Year of the Sheep we made our fan to reflect that.

We also made daddy (and us!) some Tai Pei® Eggrolls.  Chris loves chicken but unfortunately baby girl still has an allergy to poultry, but they have pork as well!  You can even find Tai Pei® Spring Rolls at select Walmart Locations.  They come out nice and crispy and they’re filled with fresh cut vegetables in combinations like chicken, pork or shrimp!

For the fans you’ll need:

  • Paper
  • Crayons
  • Glue
  • Cotton Balls
  • Stapler

Let your child color the piece of paper with crayons.

Once they’re done start folding both ways until it’s all folded.  Then fold the piece of paper in half.  Staple the bottom and glue on two cotton balls so you don’t see the staple.  The cotton balls also tie in with the Year of the Sheep!

Tai Pei® Eggrolls, cook according to package instructions,  you need nothing but the box you bought at Walmart and your microwave or oven.   They even come with their own dipping sauce.  How convenient is that?  While we purchased pork and chicken you can find other traditional flavors like Shrimp and Veggie too!
