5 Simple Tips to Start Potty Training Your Toddler | Pull-Ups® Big Kid Academy

When we first started potty training Kay I wanted to just push a button and it be done.  Why can’t children come fully potty trained, you know?  Obviously it doesn’t work that way, and while it’s not easy it can be a fun experience for both of you!  Thanks to helpful tips I’m about to share and of course Pull-Ups® Big Kid Academy, you can have your kiddo potty trained in no time.

5 Simple Tips to Start Potty Training Your Toddler

1. Show them the way: Honestly it wasn’t until Kay and I started taking turns “going potty” that she finally got interested.  She wanted to mimic me and pee like mommy.  Taking turns made it not only more fun, but easier too!

2. Encourage with their favorite things:  Kay loves Doc McStuffin’s and nothing is more fun than using Doc McStuffin’s Pull-Ups!  We even found a treasure chest to keep them in.

3. No Pee, No Poo, it’s okay:  Yes they didn’t go, but they DID try.  making potty time fun is the key to ensure you don’t scare your child into not going.

4. Less is more: This saying even rings true for potty training.  Too much going on is distracting for your potty training toddler.  I purchased a fancy toilet for her with all the bells and whistles.  It even had a spot on the toilet paper.  All it ended up being was a “play time” not “potty time”.  Get a simple on the toilet seat chair or a 2 piece potty chair.

5.  Make it fun:  Obviously, your child won’t be potty trained overnight, however, if you make sure to have fun they’ll be more interested.  More interest means more practicing!  We use stickers and sometimes even chocolate chips for encouragement.

We’re still working on potty training and I’m anxious for the day we’re fully done.   We’ve learned so much from Pull-Ups® Big Kid Academy and you should definitely consider enrolling if you’re potty training your toddler also, or soon will be!  I hope our 5 Simple Tips to Start Potty Training Your Toddler helps as well.  Always remember to have fun!  The more fun, the more success!

p.s. Hubby has never really changed Kay – not until we started using  Pull-Ups®!  It’s so much easier for him to put them on rather than an actual diaper.  He’s also started to put her hair in a pony – that may be a little harder for him to learn than her to potty train – I’m kidding!! Or am I?
